“YOU NEED TO BE A LAWYER (Like Me) TO BE JUSTICE OF THE PEACE!!!” -- AMANDA TORRES (infers), Republican Candidate for Justice of the Peace

“YOU NEED TO BE A LAWYER (Like Me) TO BE JUSTICE OF THE PEACE!!!”

-- AMANDA TORRES (infers), Republican Candidate for Justice of the Peace

NUECES COUNTY, TX -- Amanda Torres – lacking in experience, far removed from the daily orbit of the masses – was appointed to the Justice of the Peace court due to a politically charged agenda by some Republicans. She is running for the JP post; the election will take place on November 2. She was appointed after a poll indicated that some Nueces County Republican candidates needed female Hispanics on the ballot to generate votes for other Republicans.

An Ocean Drive resident stated: “To me she is not a Republican; she is a RINO. She was recruited and appointed due to Attorney Rene Rodriguez’ influence. She is known by our group as ‘Rene's girl’ (inferring a political/factional link). She is being used to bring in votes - that is all. ”

But others feel that Ms. Torres has no practical experience. “She has been in office eight months and has already stirred up a hornet’s nest. She claims to be highly qualified, but has barely graduated from law school and has not acquired any real practical, longterm experience,” a local attorney shared. “My understanding is that her own supervisor at the District Attorney’s Office is endorsing Joe Benavides and said she lacked quite a bit (Chris Dorsey).”

In her short terms the complaints keep trickling in on a regular basis. “Amanda Torres as JP has allowed several children to continue to be truant; to get in trouble and now are facing charges as adults. She retarded the prosperity and community success that former JP Jose 'JAG' Gonzalez did in that court.”

But in the last few months, some are censorious and taunt that her “walk” or “trot” has changed from one of normalcy to one with a swaggering exaggeration, an overstatement, an amplication that mirrors flatulency that her “official power” has conjured up – a reflection of the distension of her ego and social pretentions. She flaunted her lawyer credentials at various events, and thus implicitly and explicitly emphasizing how lawyer and technocratic credentials place her above her rival -- community activist Joe Benavides. The new agenda resounds with a bitter note that lifts a jejune-laden compulsion to new heights. The claim infers that one has to be a lawyer (like her) to be a JP. This publication interviewed several JPs in the area, they recurrently stated: “Nothing could be further from the truth.”

JP Robert “Bobby” Gonzalez, JP (Blackie, JP Robert “Bobby” Balderas, JP “Milo” Pena, JP Stoner and so forth – how many are the persons that now after taking office that Ms. Torres feels must not be qualified?).

“Esta loca la mujer (She must be crazy). El poder se le fue para la cabeza (Power must have gone to her head,” a former JP told this publication. “This is a people's court, not a court that needs a lawyer in there. Over 90 percent of JPs in Texas are not lawyers.”

But Ms. Amanda Torres does not seem to be overly concerned about a consistent tenure in the office. Word circulates that she has been peering at another post to run for in the near future. “I hear she is using the job, the appointment, whatever you want to call it, as a stepping stone. I feel Ms. Torres’ over ambition is a bottomless pit which will exhaust her in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction. In my opinion, she could care less about the job or the kids that come before the court. That is the difference between she and Joe Benavides (her Democrat opponent),” a courthouse employee felt.

Attorney Rene Rodriguez, who is sponsoring Ms. Amanda Torres as a Republican Candidate for JP was quick to expediently respond to this article as soon after it was posted on this website. Arrogance does indeed exude her. I have personally had the displeasure of being in her presence several times, She doesn't have to say anything to display this arrogance; her body language is loud and clear. On the other hand, Joe Benavidez has walked the talk. He is an examplary citizen in our community. He not only has helped many people have a better chance in life by helping them get their GED, he also displays a sense of humbleness that is required to be an effective Justice of the Peace.

Ms. Torres was appointed. She only has two years of law experience. Her own former supervising attorney at the D.A.'s office supports and endorses Joe Benavides. She is using the office as a stepping stone and has taken three steps back on all the hard work and community involvement Judge Joe A. Gonzalez did for the kids. Children have now gone to prison on her watch for not doing her job and enforcing the truancy standards expected of her. For her to sit there, wet behind the ears, no legal experience much to speak of, and BOLDFACE lie that you need to be a lawyer to be a JP flies in the face of all the JP's in Texas (Over 95% are not lawyers) and shows how condescending, arrogant, and lacking in character this women is. Plus, she changed parties overnight just to get ahead. Boo and Hiss to Amanda Torres. Say yes to someone who will serve our community, Joe Benavides.

It's is amazing how you use quotation marks for statements without attributing them to any person. From a psuedo journalist, like yourself, this is expected. For example, there are no legitimate well researched facts and statements in the article and absolultely nothing is predicated on objectivity or the truth. If the quotes in this article are from real people, I question their agendas and their emasculated and cowardly manhood/womanhood in not identifying themselves. I do not hide behind anonymous blogs nor do I make up statements in a lame and spineless attempt to degrade someone who I have never met or interviewed. If any of the statements in this article are based on truth, I dare this empty melodramatic JOURNALIST (using the word loosely, of course) to write a follow-up article attributing subtance to these statements and identifying these anonymous persons - assuming they in fact exist. It is sad how El Defenzor has deteriorated into a typical local rag predicated on yellow journalism, bias and false reporting - yes, Homero, we know that you go to the highest bidder. It's unfortunate that you allow your publication to be influenced by those politicos (Democrats & Republicans alike)who shamelessly fill your coffers with lucre and disgrace. Guess "living on your knees" is just another way to prosperity - and acceptance by those you long ago fought to change, educate, transform and break.

You need to get the facts right. What individual is ever ready to take on the challenge of judging right from wrong? Who is to say that what you believe is right and or wrong? You are nothing more than a human being trying too hard to sabotage the name of another individual who is but only trying her best to do a job that otherwise would not get done. Judge Amanda Torres, as a member of our community, has illustrated nothing of what you are depicting in your article. Please line up the truth; fess up to the truth. Don’t be taunted and or tactful of your words. We both know of whom you are speaking of and I assure you that Judge Amanda Torres is not that person. I back her up for her campaign. I am confident that she will win because she is humble; she respects her post and gives her all everyday. There needs to be more Judges like Amanda Torres...respectful, civil, and above all else, honorable.

Rene Rodriguez has the adocity to respond to this article the way he has? Let me remind you what type of person he is. In 2004, this man took a kick back of $100,000 dollars in a case that he was supposed to be representing some refinery people. Not only did he get that kickback from the attorney on the other side (Capello) but ripped-off the people he was supposed to be representing, giving them peanuts while he "lined his own coffers". Capello was runned out of town. And Rodriguez was either disbarred for a while or reprimanded. Yeah, there's a reason they call him "Cucuy" (scary monster).

RE: Rene Rodriguez' post............
As founder of EL DEFENZOR (the Defender) I feel our publication has remained soverign, self-regulating and independent. This article’s structure is based on a statement made by Amanda Torres, who was appointed (not elected) to the post of Justice of the Peace. A decision was made by our team to run this editorial, an editorial that captures a spiral motion of randomly acquired impressions.
Ms. Torres feels that the office of Justice of the Peace should be held by an attorney – how expediently stated when she fits the bill. It turns out that “The People’s Court” is one where a regular citizen with the normative cultural and spirit of the people is favored over someone (that is degreed in law) yet disconnected from the people. In fact, over 90 percent of all offices of the “The People’s Court” are held by elected non-attorneys. The aforementioned reflects the genuine norm.
Ms. Torres by making such a statement – it was expected – polarized a large flank of the community. Yet her statement in a way served (at least to this publication known as El Defenzor) as an opportunity to remind the community of the genuince spirit and fortitude of that office – i.e., via a spiral motion of randomly acquired impressions, impressions that are critical of an her elitist mentality. Ms. Torres by parading her “diploma” and displaying her vauntings did not behoove her with the average denison but stratefied her from the the average Jose or Maria.
Finally, Attorney Rene Rodriguez’ offensive allegation that El Defenzors cowtows to the highest bidder is far from the truth; it is nothing more than a tactic to detract from the real issue in quesiton. Mr. Rodriguez has taken umbrage because Ms. Torres is one of his sponsored candidates. Her political opponent -- Mr. Joe Benavides (like his father, Benny Benavides) – has a hefty track record of community service. Mr. Benavides does not have the “establishment’s” war chest on his side to fit Mr. Rodriguez’ ruling fixation and generalization of being the “highest bidder.” Mr. Benavides has popular support because many have chosen out of their own volition to identify with him and thus classify him as the “People’s Candidate.”

Rene Rodriguez crossed the fence, and now finds himself in the party he used to demonize, the party that proudly touts to kick out "Anchor Babies" (mexicans) out of the country. I hear rumors that his wife will run Republican. I don't believe him, I don't trust him, anymore nor any of my friend. El Republicano, this fits him well.

Rene Rodriguez calling anonymous people cowards? How many times has he gotten people to do his dirty work for him over the years, hurt people, done shady deals and now has turned his back on the Democratic party and setting up his kids and his croneys and Angelica, Anna, and Amanda (the A girls for Rene) to turn Republican overnight (pull their voting records and see) and is lining his pockets and is in bed with Neal. As a Republican, I am disgusted and i don't want a lawsuit from Rene Rodriguez for expressing my views. If he doesn't want to be blasted then he shouldn't flip flop and make fools out of liberatarians and Republicans. Don't be fooled by El CuCuoy.
